Baptism
In 1 Corinthians Paul wrote, “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at thesame time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.”
This is the gospel, the good news about Jesus, and baptism dramatizes this historical event for the church every time a person is born again. At Discovery Fellowship, we immerse the believer, symbolizing Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.
When believers are publicly baptized, they are saying to the church that they have turned from living life their own selfish way and have decided to follow Jesus and live life His way as a servant of others. The believer is showing he has eternal life because of Jesus’ death on the cross and he no longer fears death.
Hosea and Paul both wrote, “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”
Baptism is commanded by Jesus as a way to publically announce one's faith in Him. It is an outward sign of an inward decision.
